Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)- Post #2 (see below for post #1)
We have been pleased to be able to continue to serve our patients via telephone and video visits while heeding the provincial guideline to only provide in person care for emergent situations. Thank you to all of our patients for adapting to this new process with us.
We do have the capacity to provide video visits. To do this you need to have a my health access account for online booking. (see the above tab to set one up). When you book online or in person you need to indicate that you want a "virtual" appointment. Once this is done you will get an email. The email will likely look something like the picture below. Just before your scheduled appointment time you need to click on the "join now" box. Your doctor will then call you via video. We are still ironing out some kinks with this process and appreciate your grace and patience as we sort this out.
There is lots of new language floating around during this pandemic. Social/physical distancing, self-isolation, quarantine, isolation etc. It is so easy to get these all mixed up. To help clarify there are several handouts linked below. Be sure to read the introductory text to see in which situations each action would apply.
Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) We have resisted posting much about the Novel Coronovirus as we have not wanted to incite un-needed anxiety or angst. We still don't want to incite any un-needed anxiety but we do need to be cautious and prepared in this time of pandemic (as declared by the WHO). We need to take the direction of our local health authorities and public health offices seriously. We will link below several sites with good, reliable up to date information on the state of the coronovirus and local recommendations. What we ask of you is: 1- Wash your hands - seriously - wash them - all the time. 2- If you are sick (but coping) stay home. Stay home from everything possible. Employers have been asked not to request sick notes. If your employer is not following this request and you are feeling pressure to come to the office for a sick note please call us. 3- If you are life threateningly sick go to the emergency department. (this is not a new recommendation) 4- If you have a fever, new cough or difficulty breathing please CALL and talk with one of our front office staff BEFORE coming to the clinic. We may want to have a physician speak with you on the phone before we book you an appointment. Please do not use online booking for these appointments, or if you do call before coming to the office as well as booking online. 5- Follow recommendations from the BCCDC, Public Health and the Public Health Officer (see links below) - This includes social distancing when possible. 6- Please be gracious with the health care system, and with us as we all do our best to manage a difficult situation. Please understand that things may take longer than previously, that you may be asked to make some concessions in other areas of your health care in order to support our response to this pandemic.
May 16, 2019 The early part of 2019 has brought several transitions for us here at Cedar Street Medical. Dr. Dry transitioned her practice to a different clinic. We welcomed Dr. Houghton as she finished up her training and is now starting her family practice. We are so pleased to work alongside Dr. Houghton. She is accepting new patients into her full service family practice.
November 29, 2018 It is almost December - and that means that there will be a reduction in our office hours around the holidays. We aim to continue to meet your medical needs both acute and ongoing but will have some reduced hours. It always helps if we plan ahead and double check prescription needs well in advance of the holiday season.
July 19, 2018, For once I am updating the website well in advance of a holiday. Cedar Street Medical Clinic will be closed on August 6th for the statutory holiday. More exciting than long weekends is the fact that Dr. Miller has now joined the clinic and is seeing patients who have transitioned over from Dr. Morrison's practice. Dr. Miller is a welcome addition at Cedar Street.
Cedar Street Medical is closed on Monday July 2 for the holiday long weekend. On July 3 we are pleased to open our doors to Dr. Morrison's patients who will be joining us under the care of Dr. Miller. Due to paperwork Dr. Miller will not be able to start seeing patients until mid July however Dr. Logan, Dr. Davis and Dr. Dry are happy to see and support Dr. Morrison's patients during this short time of transition. Don't forget to like and follow our face book page so you get updates and notifications. Have a great weekend all.
Cedar Street Medical is once again anticipating some transitions. July 1, 2018 we are pleased to welcome the patients of Dr. Anne Morrison to our downtown office under the care of Dr. Katherine Miller who will be joining us mid July. Dr. Morrison is closing her practice June 30, 2018 and moving on to a new adventure. Dr. Morrison's existing patients who wish to have Dr. Miller take over their care are welcome to book at Cedar Street any time after July 1, 2018. All of Dr. Morrison's patient's charts will be transferred to Cedar Street unless patients have requested otherwise of Hillside medical. Dr. Miller will not be able to start until mid July but Drs. Davis, Dry and Logan are happy to assist Dr. Morrison's patients with any urgent health needs during the first few weeks of summer. We are so excited to welcome Dr. Morrison's patients as well as Dr. Miller to Cedar Street Medical.
Holliday Hours:
February 8, 2018 - A late New Year's reflection
It is now 2018 and Cedar Street Medical is now over 1 year old. It is hard to believe that we have been at this for over a year since our physical doors opened November 30 2016. 2017 brought many additions and changes at Cedar Street. Dr. Davis and her patients moved to the clinic in January 2017 along with her resident Dr. Miller. We added our up-cycled gowns and as many medical information posters as we could get our hands on to our office space. In the spring and summer Tatia and Chrisine joined our Cedar Street team working at the front desk and behind the scenes. In July 2017 Dr. Dry joined us and has welcomed many new patients into the clinic. In the fall we were pleased to have Paula Lagos join our front office staff. Early this year Dr. Phillipa Houghton has joined us as a resident physician on Wednesday afternoons. We have recently implemented a patient experience tool to gather more information about our patient's perceptions and experience of our clinic. You may be asked to answer some questions on our tablet while waiting for your appointment. And, we have new art on the hallway walls. Don't forget we have empty frames just waiting to display your accomplishments.
August 31, 2017 The medical community in Campbell River is fast approaching the opening of the new hospital. It has me thinking how exactly do you move hospitals? I mean moving houses is work enough and we can tell you in detail how much work it is to move clinics but a hospital...wow. I thought I would attach a simple map of the layout of the new hospital for those of you who have upcoming tests or appointments.
ARCHIVED NEWS:
August 28, 2017 The end of the summer is fast approaching. This spring and summer have brought changes in Cedar Street staff. We welcomed Christine and Tatia as new front office staff joining Cheyene. We also welcomed Dr. Marissa Dry at the end of July. Dr. Miller will remain as our resident for the next year though we are expecting some exiting stories from her two month adventures up in Haida Gwaii this fall.
June 21, 2017 New developments at Cedar Street Medical. We have jumped on the up-cycling bandwagon and are trying to save the environment one gown at a time. A remote supporter and fan of Cedar Street Medical has been hard at work creating one of a kind up-cycled gowns and drapes. We are so pleased with the results and excited to share them with our patients. Have a look. Also - see the post below to learn more about our wait list and on-line.
May 30, 2017 WAIT LIST! We are excited to share that we will be welcoming a new doctor to Cedar Street this summer. Dr. Marissa Dry will be joining us at the end of July when she and her family relocate to Campbell River from Alberta. In preparation for the opening of Marissa's medical practice we are opening up our wait list on June 1, 2017 to new patients. In order to be placed on our wait list you need to fill out the form below and drop it off or mail it to the clinic. As Dr. Dry's availability opens up people on the wait list will be called for new patient visits. Preference is given to patients who do not currently have a family physician.
ON LINE BOOKING We have had many requests from our patients for online booking and are now trying out a system that allows you to book your own appointments online. In order to do this you need to "sign up" through MyHealthAccess (see link below). You will then get an e-mail with confirmation instructions. Click on the "confirm my account" link. Then sign in to the MyHealthAccess site using the email and password you entered initially. Once signed in click on "My Clinics" and scroll down until you locate Cedar Street Medical and click "Request Connection." After this step you will need to wait a bit as we need to confirm your request on our end and link to your medical chart. You will receive an email when your connection has been "approved." After you have received that e-mail you can log on to your MyHealthAccess account. Then click on "My clinics" see our clinic, click "book an appointment," ensure that the kind of appointment you need meets with our online booking guidelines (there is some fine print to read), choose your physician, choose your preferred date and click "find an appointment." You will then see a list of appointments available. Once you select your appointment date and time you can there will be a box to enter the reason for your visit (this really helps us prepare any equipment or accommodations we may require). Click "Confirm Appointment" and your appointment is booked. If you click on the "Appointments" tab you can see all booked appointments and even cancel your appointment if needed. You will get an email to confirm your appointment as well. The link for the online booking site is also at the top of our webpage. Let us know what you think of this way of booking appointments.
Walk with your doc was wet and wonderful this past Thursday. We were so proud of our patients that joined us despite the gloomy weather. We were pleased to be joined by the Campbell River maternity clinic and Dean Clark from Active Living physiotherapy. It was great to see patients and doctors choosing to be active together. If you didn't make it this year consider joining us next spring.
April 24, 2017: Cedar Street Medical Clinic is excited to be participating in the Walk with your Doc initiative. On May 11th at 12 o'clock noon we will be gathering at Robert Osler Park to increase our activity together. Keep checking our website and facebook page for updates. Hope to see you there. For more information check out: http://walkwithyourdoc.ca/
March 26, 2017: The past few weeks have seen some changes for Cedar Street Medical. We are excited to share that we have a Social Worker, Micke Harris, available for appointments with patients on Tuesday mornings to assist with resource access and support. Speak with your doctor if you feel you might benefit from an appointment with Micke. We are also pleased to have Rebecca Bjorklund of Spark OT sharing our space. Check out her facebook page as linked below or her website at: https://sparkot.com/about/. Lastly we are getting busier. We are going to be closing our wait list for the time being. We hope to be able to open the clinic wait list to new registrants in June. Right now we are not adding any patients to our wait list or moving patients from our wait list to a family doctor. If you are on the existing wait list your name will stand until such a time as a Cedar Street GP has room in their practice for more patients. Growth is exciting and challenging. We appreciate the patience, feedback and encouragement of our patients as we continue to grow. Keep watching facebook and our website for new and exciting developments anticipated later this spring.
'February 1, 2017: Happy New Year! The month of January flew by as we continued settling in at Cedar Street Medical and Dr. Davis' patients ventured downtown for appointments at the new location. We welcomed our second front office staff, Ms. Jane West, and continued to work on improving office efficiency to better meet our patients' needs. Please let us know how we are doing by filling out our survey (see the link above) or by giving us face-to-face feed back. Below is a picture of the lovely faces that will greet you when you come in for an appointment.
December 26, 2016: This year is Cedar Street Medical's first Christmas. Minor construction is still ongoing as we recieved new doors this week. We are adjusting to our new space and working on ways to make it increasingly more efficient and patient centered. We hope all our patients have found moments of peace this Holiday Season regardless of how or weather they celebrate.
November 30, 2016: TODAY WAS THE DAY! Dr. Logan saw the very first patient at Cedar Street Medical Clinic on 10th ave. There are still lots of small things that need to be tweeked but the clinic is up and running. We would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Isaac Ashdown of Ashdown Construction and his crew and subtrades. We are so pleased with our new space and the potential that it holds. Keep your eyes and ears open for news of an open house in January where you can shamelessly wander through the space and let us know what you think. Also we plan to change our survey questions in the next few weeks so if you haven't taken time to fill out the survey on the "Your Cedar Street" page please do so. More questions and opportunities to have input are coming soon. I have to say these are the most exciting pictures to share.
The very first patient seen at Cedar Street Medical.
November 24, 2016: It looks like November 30, 2016 will be THE DAY; the day we will be able to open the doors of our new clinic to patients. We have a few more inspections to pass and a few finishing touches to complete and then we will begin unpacking supplies. As a reminder Dr. Davis will remain working at Seawatch Medical Clinic until the end of December 2016. Dr. Logan and Cheyene are excited to begin work in the new clinic next week. Thank you to everyone who has filled out our survey. We really appreciate hearing from you. Watch for a new updated survey coming within the next few weeks.
November 17, 2016: Every day we are getting closer to being able to welcome patients into our new clinic building. Watch the website and facebook page closely for up to date information on exactly which day we will be able to open our doors. Just a reminder that our phone lines (and fax lines) are up and running.
Nov 7, 2016: Construction continues on the new building. Paint and trim were the active projects at the end of last week. Meanwhile Dr. Logan and Cheyene are working hard to maintain seamless access to care for our patients. 250-914-4322 will get you through to Cheyene who is happy to book you necessary appointments or answer questions. At present we only have one phone line so if you don't get through right away try again.
Nov 1, 2016: Work continues on our new building. Our phone line is now up and running and the talented Ms. Cheyene Jamieson is busy answering calls. This week Dr. Logan is working out of space near the hospital while we eagerly await the completion of the new office. We will keep you all updated as things go. (You can see the start of painting in the third picture below).
October 27, 2016: Construction is well underway at Cedar Street Medical. Unfortunately, due to unexpected delays we are going to have to wait just a bit longer before being able to open the doors of our new clinic. We are doing our best to have the phone line up and running by November 1, 2016 to field your questions and requests. Dr. Logan will be available for prescription refills and will do her best to be able to meet your medical needs even though we will not likely be able to see patients at the physical clinic until at least November 21, 2016. Stay tuned for more concrete information and have a look at the photos below to view our progress.
